A Small School, By Design
Class sizes at St Patrick’s stay small on purpose, so kaiako get to know every tamaiti properly, not just their name but how they learn, what challenges them and what makes them light up. That closeness means no child moves through the school unseen, and it shapes a kind of community that’s harder to build once a school grows too large.
A Place for Every Whānau
St Patrick’s reflects the town it sits in, with families from a genuine mix of backgrounds as part of the school community. Te Ao Māori is part of everyday life at the school, and that same spirit of welcome extends to every family, whatever culture or background they bring with them.
Faith at the Foundation
Every school draws on stories to help children understand values like kindness, courage and honesty. At St Patrick’s, many of those stories come from scripture, giving children a familiar, consistent language for working through the everyday challenges of growing up.
That foundation shapes how the school supports wellbeing, underpins our learning approaches and guides how we respond when a family is going through something hard, with our mission, Preparing for the future in a Catholic Environment, sitting proudly behind the way the school operates day to day.
A Values-Led Education
Kaha, Atawhai and Kairangi shape daily life at St Patrick’s long before children can spell them. Strength, kindness and excellence are practised in the classroom and on the playground, carried through the school motto, Strength & Kindness, which has its roots in the Brigidine Sisters who founded the school.
Learning itself follows a whole-child approach, built around play-based learning, socio-emotional growth and Catholic Social Teaching, alongside the academic foundations every family expects from a primary education.
